5 Easy Anti-Inflammatory Herbs

The other day, I was sitting outside in my garden, and there was a thought that just popped into my head. My thought was that “the power of herbs is all around us, and this gifts have always been with us.” Now, as a society, I believe we’re finally waking up to this knowledge again. It is very exciting for me to see everyday people taking control over their health. In order to help , I’ve compiled a list of my favorite anti-inflammatory herbs to help further your journey!

What is an anti-inflammatory?

For starters, the term ‘anti-inflammatory’ describes medications and/or herbs that reduce inflammation in your body. Inflammation happens when a part of your body becomes reddened, swollen, hot, and/or painful, because of injury or infection.

The descriptive term ‘anti-inflammatory’ is a secondary energetic property because it defines the action, but it doesn’t say how it happens. Oftentimes, we’ll turn to ibuprofen, Tylenol, or aspirin to find relief, but there are alternatives that can be just as effective.

The Anti-Inflammatory Herbs

Here are 5 easy to find anti-inflammatory acting herbs with how and when to use them.

Ginger

This aromatic herb is known for its anti-inflammatory properties because of its ability to reduce joint pain. In addition, it’s great for fighting off colds and flus. It can also help improve digestion and aid in weight loss, too.

The best way to use ginger as an anti-inflammatory is externally in the form of a foot soak or fomentation. When you’re dealing with tense muscles or spasms, the tension in your muscles restricts your blood vessels. This also puts strains your organs and arteries making them work harder. Once ginger is applied, which is stimulating by nature, the affected area increases the blood flow. The blood flow increases because ginger expands your blood vessels to increase circulation. The increase in circulation will provide relief, and you’ll benefit from ginger’s anti-inflammatory abilities.

Many people are unaware of the main components of ginger. The most used part is the root itself, which is a rhizome, and essential oils. The root contains compounds such as gingerol, shogaol, and zingerone, which give it its unique flavor and aroma and contribute to it’s anti-inflammatory effects. However, the essential oils found in ginger are primarily composed of sesquiterpenes and monoterpenes. These oils are responsible for the characteristic spicy and peppery notes in ginger.
